Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held at the ski club.  The out going chairman provided an overview of the previous year's events. There was a report from the treasurer and the boat officer.
The existing committee stood down and the following members were elected:
Chairman - James Timothy
Treasurer - Rob Irvine
Equipment - Dennis Thatcher
Secretary - Dharshani Fernando
Club Welfare Officer - Rachel Aldington
Members' Representative - Howard Katz
Carl Delaney was also appointed to the Committee

2013 world disabled water-ski championships Milan, Italy 26 August - 1 September

Claire "Bricko" Ellis (former RWSC member) is now World Champion Disabled Skier, so good was her performance they had to give her 5 medals and 2 rather large pots

Rickmansworth wins competition with Marlow

Rickmansworth were delighted to host another competition with Marlow Water Ski Club on Saturday. These competitions are a wonderful opportunity for skiers to have a taste of competition in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. There was some great skiing from both teams with Rickmansworth taking victory for the second time in our interclub history.

Marlow Competition

It was a gloriously hot Saturday when Marlow graciously hosted Rickmansworth for our annual interclub competition and BBQ. A number of personal bests were achieved and the day culminated with the customary prize giving.  Congratulations... again.. to the Marlow team for being the overall winners.

End of Season Supper

The end of the 2012 season was celebrated with a buffet supper at The Halfway House.  There was a fun prize giving ceremony which caused much merriment and it was such a pleasure to welcome some of this year's new members to a club social evening.

GLSE - Inter-Club Team Slalom Tournament

What an amazing performance the Ricky Team put on at Denham WSC for the finals of the GLSE Iinter-Club Competition.  Representing Ricky were; Adam, Darren, James & Jane. Not only did Ricky achieve the highest score of the evening but Darren, who stood in for an injured Rachel at the very last minute, got the highest score of the night! Well done guys!!

Clean Sweep at Slalom Competition

Big well done to the Ricky Team for their success in the Rickmansworth vs Marlow competition held at Batchworth Lake. On a gloriously sunny day competitors from both Clubs enjoyed a fun day of skiing, a BBQ and a prize giving ceremony.

Heron Lake Visits Ricky

Rickmansworth were delighted to welcome a group of mixed ability skiers from Heron Lake which has closed prematurely this season.  Dennis and Rachel were brilliant coaches for the day and all those helping found it both a rewarding and informative experience.

Cutting Edge Competition

Alice Ferris, Hannah & Rowan Thomas and Millie Foster represented Rickmansworth in the Southern & GLSE team for the Cutting Edge Competition. On the podium for Tricks; Alice Ferris (2nd) and Millie Foster (3rd).
Also from the Southern & GLSE team Lucy Carter achieved 3rd in Girls Slalom and Hannah Thomas was 7th out of a field of 23. Rowan was 13th out of field of 26 in the boys slalom and scored the highest overall of the Ricky crew.

RWSC - Inter-Club Team Slalom Tournament

Rickmansworth Water Ski Club hosted the 4th round of the Inter-Club Slalom Tournament. It was wonderful to welcome such a fabulous group of skiers to our club on such a gloriously sunny day. What a great time we had. Many thanks to Progression Boats for providing us with the new "Centurion Carbon Pro" for the competition.

Ellingham - Inter-Club Team Slalom Tournament

Darren, Kirsty, Jane and Adam represented Ricky Ski Club in the 3rd round of the Southern Region Inter-Club Team Slalom Tournament. In the evening there was a BBQ with copious amounts of wine which led to an impromptu cabaret (less said the better). After camping overnight the next day started with open water swimming, cooked breakfast and more skiing in glorious sunshine. A great weekend!

Marlow vs Rickmansworth Slalom Competition

Ricky skiers received a warm welcome at Marlow Water Ski Club for the first of this year's slalom competitions. Blessed with reasonable weather - the previous day’s hurricane having died down to a mild gale. Great skiing was achieved in difficult conditions with the teams pretty evenly matched. A great fun day out and hats off to Marlow for winning!

SBDA (Ski Boat Drivers Award)

Rickmansworth Water Ski Club is a SBDA Test Centre.
Malcolm Stirling now joins the team of RWSC drivers. He passed the SBDA test, achieved First Aid certification and has had a CRB check.

GLSE Southern Region Competition

The 'A' team (James, Rachel, Darren & Kirsty) were down on numbers so Malcolm, Chrissy & Jane stepped in for Round 2 at JB Ski.  The team achieved 3rd place on the night and Ricky are lying 4th overall.

Ricky will be hosting the competition on Saturday 28 July @ 4pm.

Dennis took delivery of a Ski Nautique 200 today. Behind the revolutionary Nautique 200:
- Chris Parrish set a world slalom record

End of Season Party

A very jolly and festive End of Season party was enjoyed by many at the Coach & Horses. Everyone was remarkably well behaved (no food fights) although some overheard conversations did contain “adult themes”. But what else would you expect?

New Boat for RWSC

Following extensive research, trials and consultation with all club members a Ski Nautique 200 has been ordered for the 2012 season. We look forward to starting next season with this new boat that has proved to be so popular with ski clubs around the world.

Regional Inter-Club Competition

The "Ricky Buoys" slalom team finished as overall runners up after the concluding regional inter-club competition held at Denham. The final scores were very close. Well done to the winners from Ellingham. Ricky were just four points behind and only one point ahead of Denham in third. Thanks to all who skied for the club this year and those who came to support.

Greg Manning followed in the footsteps of Byron when he took part in one of the most significant open water swims in the world. In 1810, Lord Byron the English Poet became the first known person to swim across the Hellespont from Europe to Asia.

2011 World Disabled Water Ski Championship

Claire "Bricko" Ellis (former RWSC member) has won Gold in Tricks & Gold in Slalom for her category at the 2011 World Disabled Waterski Championships this weekend at the IWWF World Disabled Water Ski Championships held in West Chester, Ohio, USA.

Church Wilne Competition

Alice Ferris competed in the Cutting Edge run youth programme at Church Wilne Watersports Club, Derbyshire. Alice achieved 2nd in tricks and would have come 1st if she'd managed 1 more trick! She was 9th in the slalom and got points for waving at the judge in the wakeboarding. Well done Alice !

What a delight it was to welcome Geri Halliwell to a coaching session at the club.  It was a gloriously sunny morning and we were all charmed by Geri's lively and enthusiastic personality. Adam and Dennis were the most attentive instructors.

Three Rivers District Council Disability Fun Day

Three Rivers Council organised the “Get set nature walk” at Rickmansworth Aquadrome.  Individuals with a disability and their families were invited to join in a walk around Batchworth Lake and participate in a scavenger hunt, fishing and some water sports. The picture shows the inspirational Andy Trollope, who was injured in a moto cross accident, coaching Rachel in the art of seated skiing.

Marlow vs Rickmansworth Interclub competition

RWSC hosted the return match with Marlow on a glorious June day. The competition was close with Rickmansworth achieving an overall score of 242 and Marlow inching ahead with 244.

George Mayling Tuition Day

George started competing at the age of 9 and became a British Team Squad Skier at the age of 11 competing at European and World level every year since. George is currently the Under 21 National Champion and also holds the under 12 and under 17 records. George has spent the last 3 years working at some of the top schools in the States and in the UK.
RWSC were delighted to have George spend a day coaching our members.
